Everyone on Berk appears to have some combat training. The fact Hiccup and his company can handle reputably dangerous folk like Alvin means that maybe they can handle the Nazgûl. Lots of these fights are on dragons, but there are times where some of the combat is hand-to-hand. There are even times when Hiccup and his companions enter fights against the Outcasts. Alvin is someone with extraordinary experience in battle and has led Vikings into war. Hiccup is about sixteen when he first goes up against Alvin the Treacherous. Hiccup and his friends have confronted a large number of adult warriors and bested them.I imagine they might handle it by striking at a distance. If they can adapt to something like a dragon that paralyzes them on the spot, then maybe they can figure out a way to handle the Black Breath. So, while the youths might not have had experience with something like the Black Breath before, they could adapt quickly. The youths learn how to work with the Death Song after one encounter. For instance, Hiccup quickly discovers how the Flightmare’s paralyzing effect works. They are able to figure out how novel situations can be overcome. Hiccup and his friends are quickly adaptable. To list off a few good points of the dragon riders’ résumés: Hiccup and his friends especially have little experience with something like the Black Breath in the DreamWorks world, they don’t exactly live in a world of magic.īut the thing is - Hiccup and his companions would do better than a lot of individuals. Since the Nazgûl are so formidable - formidable even to experience warriors who are aware of their powers - I wonder if Hiccup and his company would be outmatched. Not to mention… even someone like King Theoden had problems around them. With all of these features combined, it seems like the Nazgûl would be challenging foe. And then there are some of their other characteristics - like the Black Breath you mentioned, which is basically an aura of fear that affects any living thing that comes near them. They’ve existed for far longer than the span of a mortal man. They carry with them steel long swords and daggers which they certainly seem to know how to use. Nazgûl have been through a lot of battles, and have even led Sauron’s army in conquests like the Battle of Pelennor Fields. All of them were once Men - kings of Men - and appear to have experience on the battlefield. But even just looking at any of the Nazgûl, they’re a little frightful. The Witch-King, in particular, would be hard to harm… weapons that strike him are destroyed and the weapon bearer is poisoned. In some ways, I think the youths would be fine, but in other areas, I am uncertain they would be fine. I’m slightly divided about how the HTTYD youths would handle the Nazgûl.
